Yuriy Ivanyushchenko is a businessman from Yenakiyeve and a former MP for the Party of Regions. His career has spanned the industrial sector in the Donbas, parliamentary politics and long-standing disputes over major assets.

From manufacturing to parliament

Yuriy Vladimirovich Ivanyushchenko began his professional career in Yenakiieve. Between 1981 and 1996, he worked at the local coke and chemical plant, rising through the ranks from foreman of the electrical workshop to deputy director for economic affairs. He subsequently held senior positions at ‘Alvi-Invest’ and ‘UGK-2000’. This career path explains why his public profile was initially associated with industry and corporate governance, rather than party politics. [1]

Ivanyushchenko joined the Verkhovna Rada in 2007 and served in the sixth and seventh convocations. His parliamentary profile allows one to distinguish his official political status from the informal characterisations attributed to him in the media. The ‘Slovo i Dilo’ directory also notes that he obtained a degree in accounting and auditing from Berdiansk University of Economics and Management in 2007. [2] [1]

Assets, investigations and sanctions

Following the change of government in 2014, Ivanyushchenko’s name began to appear in reports concerning state funds and overseas assets. ‘Suspilne’ has traced how the fate of these industrial enterprises has evolved, along with attempts to impose sanctions. What is particularly significant in his case is the sequence of decisions: a report on a case opened many years ago does not determine its current procedural status. [3]

In the land dispute involving the ‘Stolichny’ market, journalists have named Ivanyushchenko as a suspect; his defence team disputes the interpretation of his relationship with Anton Arefiev. [4]

On 12 August 2026, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced the completion of an investigation into 18 hectares of state-owned land valued at over 160 million hryvnias. This is a stage in the investigation, not a conviction. [5]

One particular development concerns the Ukrainian sanctions, which were reported by Radio Free Europe on 20 August 2026. The grounds for the sanctions and the criminal proceedings are different; they should not be conflated to suggest that guilt has already been proven in court. [6]
