Gennadiy Korban is a Dnipro-based entrepreneur and politician who served in the leadership of the regional administration and headed the political council of UKROP. His career has involved corporate disputes, election campaigns and involvement in organising the defence of Dnipro.
Business and the political transition
Gennadiy Olegovich Korban was born in 1970 in Dnipropetrovsk. In his corporate background, CHESNO notes his leadership of the supervisory board of the Southern Mining and Processing Plant and his membership of the supervisory board of Ukrnafta. In 2014–2015, he served on the management team of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration, which was headed by Ihor Kolomoyskyi. [1]
In 2015, Korban became head of UKROP’s political council and stood in the by-election for the Verkhovna Rada in Chernihiv constituency No. 205. He came second, losing to Serhiy Berezenko. He later stood in the Kyiv mayoral election. These campaigns turned him into a national political figure, although prior to this he was known primarily for his business activities. [1]
Conflicts and Korban’s own stance
CHESNO describes the conflict surrounding the development of Protasov Yar and the public accusations made by activist Roman Ratushny. The same biographical overview notes that Korban denied the threats. It is not permissible to present one side of this dispute as an established fact without mentioning the objections. [1]
Dnipro in 2022
In an interview with ‘Ukrainska Pravda’ in the spring of 2022, Korban spoke about organising the defence of Dnipro, management decisions and cooperation with city authorities. The interview is useful as a source of his own views and assessment of events; it does not replace independent verification of each statement. [2]
On 22 July 2022, he confirmed to Interfax-Ukraine that his Ukrainian passport had been confiscated at the border. This incident must be dated: a report on a specific border decision does not provide grounds for independently establishing all subsequent changes to citizenship and legal status. [3]
