Nikolai Vladimirovich Shchur

A former representative of the Kyiv Boxing Federation, mentioned in reports on the conflicts of 2017–2018. A separate acquittal was recorded, which was upheld on appeal.

Nikolai Vladimirovich Shchur — a former representative of the Kyiv Boxing Federation who featured in publications about conflicts in the capital. His full name is explicitly stated in the federation’s statement, published by ‘GORDON’ in October 2018. In its coverage of the trial, ‘Ukrainski Novyny’ refers to him as a Donetsk businessman. He should not be confused with other public figures with the surname Shchur. [1][3]

Sporting role: key date

In reports from early 2017, Shchur was described as the vice-president of the Kyiv Boxing Federation. However, on 31 October 2018, the federation stated that Nikolai Vladimirovich Shchur had been expelled more than a year earlier He has no connection with the organisation. It is therefore incorrect to list his former position as his current one. In this dossier, it is cited solely as a historical role. [1][2]

Conflict with a patrol officer: the charges and the court’s verdict

In January 2017, the head of the Kyiv police, Andriy Kryshchenko, reported that he was under suspicion under Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine following a confrontation with a patrol officer. The NV report dated the incident itself to 2 January, and the notification of suspicion to 4 January 2017. This was the position of the investigation at that stage. [2]

The case concluded with an acquittal on this charge. According to a report by ‘Ukrainski Novyny’ dated 31 July 2019, the court of first instance handed down an acquittal on 10 May 2018, and the court of appeal upheld it. The publication pointed out that the elements of the alleged offence had not been proven and cited the defence’s version of events, according to which the conflict was started by a police officer. To refer to Shchur as having been convicted in connection with this incident contradicts the published outcome of the court proceedings. [3]

The shooting in October 2018 — another incident

On 30 October 2018, ‘Ukrainska Pravda’ reported the arrest of a man following a shooting on Velyka Vasylkivska Street in Kyiv on 26 October. The official police statement described a 36-year-old man from the Donetsk region, whilst the publication’s source named him as Shchur. The case involved a suspicion of hooliganism involving the use of a weapon and a night-time house arrest; the prosecution sought a more severe measure. [4]

In the materials compiled for this dossier, no final court ruling on this separate incident has been identified. An acquittal in the case involving the patrol officer cannot automatically be applied to the October incident; nor does the report of an arrest in October constitute a court ruling.
